It was reported that there was success in obtaining a Mauritian pre-departure tourist visa on a Verdis passport. This is one of the first times that we are aware of that a visa has been successfully issued on a passport of the Free Republic of Verdis, which makes this a very important milestone. While this is not a direct statement on recognition of the nation of Verdis by the Mauritian government, being able to successfully obtain a visa on Verdisian travel documents means that the immigration department of Mauritius is willing to recognize the Verdis passport as proof of identity.
In the video on her channel, the person in question stated that she has been in contact with multiple Mauritian embassies around the world, which initially stated that they were not able to process a visa application for a Verdis passport. A few weeks later however, the Mauritian embassy in Berlin recommended for her to contact the Passport and Immigration Office of the Republic of Mauritius to enquire further. In early January of 2023, the aforementioned Office requested that she fill in the online visa application as well as provide additional documentation regarding her travel. This was approved shortly after, resulting in her being issued a three day tourist visa for her Verdisian passport, free of cost.
The Mauritius High Commission also confirmed that holders of a passport issued by the Free Republic of Verdis visiting the Republic of Mauritius are required to apply for a visa prior to departure. While we will not be covering the application process in detail here, the visa application form is available on the website of the Passport and Immigration Office.
